Journey Details
Sojourn to the Past is a trip guaranteed never to be forgotten. For the first time, history will come alive and participants have an opportunity to experience events from our country’s past. Seeing the sites of famous events, having a chance to speak with people who were involved in the Civil Rights Movement, and making new friends along the way are only some of the benefits students reap from the experience.

Sojourn to the Past will give students the chance to travel for ten days through the South visiting the most dramatic sites and hearing inspirational speakers that first witnessed and created the Civil Rights Movement. This journey is important not only for the historic value, but, more importantly, to teach the real lessons of the Movement — tolerance, justice, compassion, hope, and non-violence – and to help participants employ these values in daily life.
On the journey, students travel with 70 to 100 other students, teachers and staff to the first stop in Atlanta, Ga. Then it’s on by bus to the other sacred civil rights sites: Montgomery, Birmingham, Selma, Hattiesburg, Jackson, Little Rock and Memphis.
While Sojourn to the Past has focused primarily on trips for high school students, we also do 8th grade trips. For groups of 80 or more, we can schedule additional trip dates. Please click here to inquire about either of these options.
